Finding The Cook Within

I never in my life thought I could make homemade chicken an dumplings and they actually taste good. Well, I did and it is all thanks to Rocks In My Dryer! I got this great recipe from her blog. So easy and so good. My husband almost eat himself sick.

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda

3 tbsp Crisco (I think this is what makes these so good!)

3/4 cup buttermilk

2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or cubed
2 cups celery

1 cup onion

at least 4 cups chicken broth
Bring broth to a broil; drop in chicken, celery and onion.  In a separate bowl, mix together first six ingredients.  Roll dough flat, slice into whatever size/shape you prefer (I like half-inch-by-half-inch squares).  Drop into boiling broth.  Allow to simmer until dough is cooked through, usually about 15-20 minutes.

I did not add the onion or the celery just because I wanted my kids to eat it. Also after I had broil the chicken for a little while I needed to add some water because it was broiling down and I did not have anymore broth. It still tasted very good. Happy cooking :)

TEA PARTY FUN

Zoe and I made some yummy things at our tea party. With the help of my little cook we made these cupcakes. For the topping we used:

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

My little helper helped to spread it on the cupcakes then we toped them with fresh blueberries and raspberries. They were so good. We had sparkling grape juice to drink with berries floating in it. All the guests loved it and came back for more! Funny thing... at our tea party we did not have tea! :)

After yummy snacks we made cute little flower bracelets. We got the idea from Family Fun.com We just turned the flowers into bracelets. We also made flowers to hang from the ceiling along with Zoe's homemade streamers.

Now that our guests had their flower bracelets it was time for Zoe to dress them up even more. But first she had to do herself!

Now she was ready to work on another person!

So, as you see, she had the best party ever! For days after the party she would ask "Can we please have another party?" Well, now we are. We are planning our fall party and are so looking forward to it!

A New Idea

I love to be waited on. Okay I said it. I am famous for going to my bed and having my family go get this or that. Since they are such great people most of the time they just do it for me. There are times when my husband will say " Is there some reason you can't get it?" Oh, no that means tonight I will be fixing my own drink. :)

So this is my new idea. To be a server. This can happen in many ways. As a wife and mother one of my main jobs is cooking. So a good bit of this blog will go to recipes and cooking tips. It seems like every time I turn around I am fixing a meal or a snack. I think this is a great place to start showing my kids the joy of having a heart of a server.

Here begins my journey of journaling about being the server that God made me to be.
